Review of Related Literature The proposed study is on the basis of the behaviorist approach to education. In this principle, learning can be measured by the observable traits and behaviors of the individual. The behaviorist point of view depicts the importance of expression of a person in the determination of a successful learning process. One of the most important is the process of conditioning that can be applied through the process (Griffin, Holford, and Jarvis, 2003). Another key concept that is related to the course of this study is the theories on conditioning. Conditioning that can be explained as the exposure to different affective factors in the environment that can affect both the cognitive and behavioral aspects of development. The study presented a scientific and physiological approach on the changes associated with the influences of the media to the children. One of the conventional studies on the effects of media was presented by Johnson (2005). Based on this study, the computer games can bring about the development of analytical skills of children. The skills that can be developed are the problem-solving and logical skills. Various methodologies that can be applied in the course of the study as well flexibility of reference can be utilized. However, a systematic research should be employed to assess and analyze in the involvement and the effects of the media on the knowledge acquisition and cognitive skills of the children (Livingstone, 2004) Procedures To be able to achieve the projected results of the study, different procedure are needed to be employed. The objective is to quantify the responses given by the sample population. The method targets the characteristic or issue of interest by soliciting answers through directed questions. Homosexual Indifference The times seem to be changing in acceptance of homosexual relationships for the better, but many laws as well as society still prohibit gay marriage and adoption. There are two sources which I will use to show different view points on gay marriage and adoption. The first is an article written by Andrew Sullivan, titled â€Å"Let Gays Marry.† This is written as an informal piece to argue that gay people should be allowed to marry one another. The next is also on gay marriage, but in this article, â€Å"Leave Marriage Alone,† author William Bennett writes that it is wrong for gays to marry. These two authors show separate feelings on the issue of gay marriage, while attempting to persuade the readers to agree with them. Each of these articles have valuable arguments, but will they be enough to change people’s views, to benefit their beliefs? Beginning with the topic on gay marriage and the controversial battle between authors, Andrew Sullivan and William Bennett, Sullivan is the gay supporter. In Sullivan’s piece, â€Å"Let Gays Marry,† he opens with a statement by the Supreme Court, â€Å"A state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws.† He feels that this simple sentence has so much meaning, saying that whatever type of person, male or female, black or white, everyone deserves the same legal protection and equal rights. Therefore, gay marriage should not be excluded from the legal system. He tells that some churches practice different beliefs and may oppose gay marriage but religion has nothing to do with the state appeals. Sullivan explains how the definition of marriage has changed in the past and that it can be done again. Sullivan ends his piece by saying that changing the law would not affect straight couples, so why are they against gay marriage? He believes t he change would allow gay couples to experience what straight couples already have. On the other hand, William Bennett, author of â€Å"Leave Marriage Alone,† feels that the right for gays to marry should not come into effect. He begins by asking if gay marriage will benefit the institution. He fears that if this law was passed the true meaning of marriage would be altered and destroyed.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclari Jr. - 585 Words

Upton Sinclair was a well-known novelist from California. He and two other journalists, Ida Tarbell and Lincoln Steffens, were pioneers of a different kind of journalism known as â€Å"muckraking.† He was best-known for his novel, The Jungle, published in 1906. The novel uncovered the unfair and unsanitary conditions of the Chicago meat packing industry. In 1904, the editor of the socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, Fred Warren, gave Sinclair the permission to write a novel about immigrant workers in the Chicago meat packing houses. The owner of the journal, Julius Wayland, gave Sinclair a $500 advance to do research for The Jungle. The Jungle was a fictional booked about a young man named, Jurgis Rudkis, who got a job as a â€Å"gut shoveler† at Durham meat packing house, which was Armour in reality. In The Jungle, Upton Sinclair also spoke about the filthiness of the packing houses. Rotten meat was covered in chemicals to hide the smell; rats climbed all over the wa rehouse, and left over animal parts were packaged as head cheese, used for fertilizer and even used as soap. Jurgis worked with people who had skin diseases, people who were always losing fingers as a result of the assembly line moving so fast, and people who constantly coughed spreading their germs all over the meat. There were few toilets, and no soap nor clean water to wash their hands with. These working conditions were unacceptable. The Things They Carried By Tim O Brien - 864 Words

The things they carried are a story written by Tim O’Brien about a group of US solders that are fighting in the Vietnam War. This story centers on First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross his band of brothers. In this story we follow Lt Cross through the jungles, in the caves, and across the rice patties of Vietnam. We get the rare opportunity of looking into what a man thinks and does when he is stranded thousands of miles from his home, family, and friends. The name of this story suggests what it is about; the things they carried. It talks about the their experience in Vietnam and what they carried physically and mentally. From the beginning of this book, Lt. Cross goes into great detail of what supplies they have to carry with them and everything that has to do with these supplies. Cross describes to us what, how heavy, and what any item that he or his brethren may be carrying at any point in time. Cross goes into detail about these items in a very standard and almost rehearsed way at the beginning of the book and towards the end he stops talking about their weight. The way he talks about the weights in the beginning act almost in a way that comforts him. It’s as if he doesn’t think about what is actually going around him and instead that a claymore weighs 3.5 pounds that what is going on around him isn’t happening. He is affixed onto these items to avoid dealing with the tragedy that is happening around him.
